App Guide
A clear picture of every screen and feature in SchoolNet — what you see and what you can do
Getting Started
When you open the app, you’ll see a short loading screen, then either sign in or create an account. New users choose their role (Student, Teacher, Parent, or Admin) before entering the main app.
Sign in: Use email and password, or sign in with Google.
Create account: Enter your details, verify your email if prompted, then select your role.
Bottom Navigation
After signing in, the main screen has a bottom bar with four tabs. What you see depends on your role:
- Home — Your dashboard (different for students, teachers, parents, and admins)
- Notes / Assignments — Class notes or assignments (labelled based on the tab you’re on)
- Timetable / Activity / Results — Your schedule, your children’s activity, or results
- Profile — Your account, settings, and school info
What Students See
Home Screen
A welcome message, your class, and quick stats (e.g. study time, assignments done). Cards take you to:
- Timetable — Your weekly schedule by day (subject, time, room)
- Class Notes — Documents and videos shared by teachers, with filters by subject
- Assignments — Homework and tasks with due dates; tap to open attachments
- Results — Report cards when published by your school
Assignments Screen
A feed of assignments and notices. Search bar at the top. Each assignment shows title, class, subject, due date, and teacher. Tap to view details and open attachments (PDFs, images).
Class Notes Screen
Tabs for Documents and Videos. Notes are shown as cards with subject, title, and teacher. Tap to view or play.
Timetable Screen
Days of the week as tabs. For each day, a list of lessons with time, subject, and room.
Results Screen
If your school has published results, you’ll see your report card. Tap to open a full report with grades, totals, and teacher comments. Supports Uganda grading (PLE, O-Level, A-Level) and the new S1–S4 curriculum format.
What Teachers See
Home Screen
A greeting and cards for:
- Post Assignment — Create homework with title, class, subject, description, attachment, and due date
- My Assignments — List of all assignments you’ve posted; tap to edit or delete
- Create Notice — Post school announcements
- Record Discipline — Log discipline incidents for students
- Class Notes — Upload documents and videos for your classes
- Panel — Manage class lists and mark lists (for class teachers)
- Class Activity — See which students have opened notes (for class teachers)
- Approve Join Requests — Approve teachers and students joining your class (for class teachers)
Post Assignment Screen
Form with dropdowns for class and subject, fields for title and description, file attachment, and optional due date. At the bottom, a list of your recent assignments.
My Assignments Screen
A full list of your posted assignments. Each card shows title, class, subject, posted date, description, due date, and attachment. Use the menu (⋮) to edit or delete.
Panel Screen
Class lists (e.g. Primary 5 East) with student names and IDs. Create new class lists by uploading a file or adding names. For each class, you can create mark lists, enter marks, and publish results. Marks can be imported from a spreadsheet (CSV) or entered by hand. For S1–S4, you enter formative scores (U1–U4) and summative scores (Midterm, End of Term) per subject.
Assignments & Notices Feed
Same as students, but teachers see an add button to post new items. Teachers can edit or delete their own assignments from the feed.
What Parents See
Home Screen
Your linked children shown as cards. Tap a child to see their activity. If you haven’t linked any children, you’ll see a prompt to add their Student ID and access code.
Activity Screen
One view per child. Tabs for:
- Assignments — Their assignments, grouped by child
- Notes — Class notes shared with their class
- Results — Published report cards
You can see how often they’ve opened each item. Tap an assignment or note to view it. Tap a result to open the full report card.
Profile
Manage linked children. Add a child by entering their Student ID and access code. You can also view app usage (e.g. study time) for linked children on supported devices.
What School Admins See
Home Screen
Cards for:
- Manage Classes — Add or edit classes and streams
- Manage Teachers — Add teachers and assign class teachers
- Join Requests — Approve or reject teachers and students joining your school
- Edit School — Update school name, address, logo
- Timetable — Set the school timetable
You also have access to assignments, notices, and notes like teachers.
Report Cards
The app supports different report styles depending on the class level:
- Primary (PLE) — Grades like D1, D2, C4, etc., with aggregate
- O-Level / S1–S4 — New curriculum: formative (units 1–4), summative (midterm and end of term), and term average with letter grades (A*, A, B, C, D, E)
- A-Level (UACE) — Letter grades with points
Report cards show school name, student details, subject results, grading scale, totals, and comments from the class teacher and head teacher.
Profile & Settings
From Profile you can:
- View and edit your name and photo
- See your role and school
- Request a new feature
- Delete your account
Teachers can see a QR code to help students join the school. Parents manage linked children from here.
Notifications
You get alerts when:
- New assignments or notices are posted
- New class notes are shared
- Results are published
- Teachers and admins: when someone requests to join the school
Tapping a notification opens the app to the relevant screen (e.g. the new assignment or result).
Where It Runs
SchoolNet works on phones, tablets, and desktops. Use it in a browser on a computer, or install the app on Android or iOS. Your data stays in sync across all devices.
